1996 Toyota truck T100 with front tires wearing on the inside
Toyota truck T100 Owner Problem:
We have this 1996 Toyota truck T100 that has the inside of the tires wearing since my neighbor bought it. He has brought it for inspection to the dealer and a few small garages but they can’t find the problem. I am a retired mechanic and tried to help him and so far when I checked the front end parts, they all seem to be within tolerable limits. Is there any technical service bulletin (TSB) that addresses this problem? Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Toyota truck Tire Advisor:
I just looked at the TSB’s for this vehicle and there nothing that mentioned about inside tire wear and its remedies. What I found though is the specification range of this car’s alignment SPECS is far too wide. To me this suggests that you have to bring this car to an alignment specialist that does this truck all the time. If the mechanic doing the alignment is not specialist, it would take a lot of trial and error to get the right specifications to be used. I would try first another Toyota dealer that handles lots of Toyota trucks or an alignment shop that only do import trucks like Toyota.
I am also assuming that you are already doing these things to prevent the tire wear:
Using the recommended tire pressure recommend by the factory (found in the driver’s door or glove box).
Rotating the tires as frequently as possible as or better than what the factory suggest especially if the driving conditions are not good.
Notes:
When in doubt, bring your truck to an authorized Toyota truck dealer shop to make sure your tire problem is fixed.
