1998 Toyota Camry that shakes when you hit 45 mph

1998 Toyota Camry Owner Problem:

My wife’s 1998 Toyota Camry shakes as soon as you hit 45mph but disappear after it reaches 65 mph. So far, I brought it to a couple of front-end alignment shops and they cannot find anything wrong with the front end components including the steering system. However, one of the garages recommended replacing all the tires because they are cupped.

After doing all of these, this 1998 Toyota Camry still shakes as you hit 45 mph and I also tried checking the front wheel bearings. I then had the brake rotors replaced because I was afraid that they are out of balance. STILL, I am stuck with this vibration and I don’t know what I have missed to fix this problem. Your help will be highly appreciated.

1998 Toyota Camry Tire Advisor:

There is no mention in your repair that your suspension system was checked. I would pay attention to your McPherson struts which are both installed at the front and back for this model. You should check it for hydraulic leaks, loose mounts and wear. If you find one of them worn, replace them all. Do this because the rest are probably worn too on this 1998 Toyota Camry.

Notes:

When checking the strut for wear, try leaning down on one of the corner you are checking and that corner should bounce back just once. If more than once, that particular strut for that corner is worn. This is the same method when checking your suspension (like shocks) on 1998 Toyota Camry.

Front wheel alignment does not affect your vehicle’s vibration (like shakes as you hit 45 mph) due to poor suspension. All it does is affect your vehicle’s road handling (straightness when driving) and wearing of your tires.

Some front vibration are also caused by defective CV joints or using an after market part. Always use an OEM (dealer) part when replacing your CV joint.

I hope this solves your vehicle problem on your 1998 Toyota Camry.
