GMC Yukon Deali has a weird
shake at front end
when it hits a bump at 60 mph!
SUV Owner Problem:
I am extremely frustrated on this truck because it
has
cost me a lot of money and unfortunately, the problem is still there.
It started about 3 months ago and after seeing 3 garages, they cannot
correct it. The truck drives fine until you hit a bump at 60mph and the
front end shakes. Tires were changed and alignment done twice including
the replacement of upper and lower ball joints. I am getting desperate
because I want to sell this truck, can you help?
SUV Tire Advisor:
Although 3 garages saw this truck, you did not
mention
if any one of them is from the dealer because they can verify if there
is an outstanding "tsb" or service bulletin on it. Regarding the tires,
I hope the sizes that were installed are ones recommended for your
truck. The tires must be able to carry the load of the truck and you
ran the risk of having this trouble if the tire size recommended is not
followed.
Regarding the front alignment job, here are some recommedations:
Are the front shocks OK or any signs of
leakage at
the shock absorber? Are the caster reading within specs? Some
garages recommends a closer negative reading for stability.
What is the condition of the stabilizer bar? Is the stabilizer bushing
worn? Finally, when testing the alignment, have your front end seat
lower than the back end by adjusting the torsion bars. This would help
the truck become more stable under load.
If
you talk to your
garages and concentrate on the above areas, you might get this solved
but the best way is to contact your GM dealer if the small garages
cannot do it.
Notes:
When in doubt, bring your SUV to an authorized or
certified GM dealer shop to make sure your tire problem is fixed.
