1993 Dodge PickUp truck that wears the inside edges of the front tires needs the proper front alignment job.
Dodge truck owner Problem:
I have a 93 Dodge truck that I just bought 6 months ago and this truck eats tires! It wears the inside edge of the front tires after driving it for under 10,000 miles. I have taken it to 3 alignment shops and all of them cannot seem to find the right camber or toe adjustments. They have replaced the upper and lower ball joints and other parts but nothing has changed. Also, my steering wheel won't seem to line up straight. I just put a new set of bigger tires and I am afraid these tires will have the same faith as the old ones. What can you recommend?
Tire Advisor:
If your steering wheel won't line up straight, it is an indication of a bad toe out adjustment. Have your alignment shop redo your toe adjustment until the steering wheel is OK. I bet also that your camber adjustment was not done since you did not mention any camber bushing installed. This camber kit is available from after market parts store and they are used for difficult camber adjustments like yours.
Bigger tires can be installed (like 2 sizes up maximum) and not affect your tire wear problem. As long as the alignment specs are done within limits, it should work properly. Just make sure to ask for the alignment specs after the alignment job is finished. This way, you have a future reference to check later if another alignment is required.
Finally, make sure you have more time interval in your tire rotation schedule to make sure the tires wears evenly. On some extreme case like yours, other owners usually have their tires rotated every oil change. Worst comes to worst, you can get rid of this truck or stock up on more tires.
Notes:
When in doubt, bring your Dodge truck to an authorized Chryler dealer shop to make sure your tire problem is fixed.
