the tire industry!
Do you know that Charles Goodyear is not connected to the Goodyear tire company? Frank Seiberling started The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1898, by naming in the honor of Charles Goodyear, the inventor of vulcanized rubber. It was started with 13 workers to manufacture bicycle and carriage tires and rubber pads for horseshoes. Now Goodyear tires is one of the largest tire and rubber companies in the world with thousands of employees.
Goodyear Tires also had a subsidiary called Goodyear Aircraft company, whose ‘blimps’ were popular throughout the world. In 1917 Goodyear produced airships and balloons for the U.S. military during World War I. This company was renamed Goodyear Aerospace Corporation after World War II and was subsequently sold to Loral Corp in 1987.
Early 1990s’ saw a revolution in tire technology by Goodyear. Goodyear tires were mounted on Henry Ford’s cars to start automobile racing in 1901. After further research Goodyear tires were developed for aircraft use in 1909. The Goodyear tires were used for racing and by 1919 Goodyear tires were on the winning car at Indianapolis 500. Due to economic depression Goodyear tires for racing were stopped and re-started the same again in 1958.
In 1901, Goodyear developed first straight-side Goodyear tire, with braided wire bead as wingfoot trademark. Initially the tires were pasted to rims and Goodyear tires company developed the first detachable rim to replace one-piece clincher rim in 1904 and then went on to produce the world's first quick, detachable, straight-side tire in 1906, and first pneumatic rubber airplane tire in 1909. Break through was achieved by introducing Radial-ply Goodyear car tire in a full range of sizes to all auto manufacturers in 1965. Vector, the third generation all-season radial Goodyear tires were introduced in 1984.
By 1926, Goodyear tires and Rubber Company became the world's largest rubber company with sales of $230,161,356. Five hundred millionth Goodyear tire was rolled out in 1950 and the company reached the landmark 1 billion dollar sales in 1951.

Goodyear tires Company has given its best for the tire industry and continues to develop new technologies. One of the best displays of technology is the introduction of Goodyear tires with innovative DuraSeal technology by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. This technology enables the tire to seal the puncture automatically and the driver can continue to drive. We can look forward for many innovative tires from Goodyear tires.
