Tire problem vibration for 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee at 40 mph
Symptoms:
I have a serious front-end problem with this 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
At 40 MPH when hitting any kind of bumps or potholes, the entire front
end violently shakes. This includes the steering wheel, front wheels,
and front end. The shaking does not stop until the speed drops below
10 MPH. Please advise.
Tire Problem Advisor:
The most common fix for this is usually a new set of balanced and aligned
tires. If you are fixing this yourself, try installing a set of tires from
a similar Jeep that does not shake (if not available, just buy a new set of tires).
If the shaking stops after substituting the tires, it confirms that the tires
are really defective. Otherwise, check your steering stabilizer and track
bar/bushings because they are known to fail for this model.
Notes:
To check the stabilizer bar or bushing, raise your front end and support it
solidly high enough so you can access the stabilizer bar. Remove stabilizer
bar bracket to frame bolts followed by the brackets and the stabilizer bar.
Inspect the bushing/ bar and replace if necessary. Torque the frame bolts to
55 ft lbs and stabilizer bar link bracket bolts to 70 ft lbs.
When in doubt, bring your vehicle to authorized Jeep dealer shop.
Above repair is only a recommendation and you do this at your own risk. Always
have your vehicle align after replacing the tires to prevent future tire problem.
