What are the four methods of Tire Replacement used by the dealers? There are different ways to choose the proper tire in your vehicle without compromising tire performance and your safety. These methods were formulated to satisfy your needs.
Here are the four methods of tire replacements:
1. Use the year, make and model of the vehicle stamped on your vehicle’s door or glove box. Make sure the tire size and inflation pressure indicated by the sticker is the same as shown on the side of your tire sidewall.
Note: You can also use the vehicle’s owner’s manual for this information.
2. If you want to replace your tire with custom sizes different from what you got, find a MAST tire size guide book or manual indicating the load carrying capacity and the inflation pressure table. This is available from every tire manufacturer such as Michelin, Good Year, Yokohama, etc. When using the table, select the tire that matches your old tire size and inflation pressure.
3. Get hold of a tire table from Rubber Manufacturing Association in Washington DC. The table chart will give you list for every size of tires for all manufacturers.
4. Get hold of a GAWR table, which has the listing of tire sizes based on the gross axle weight capacity of the vehicle.
When handling tire replacement different than what is recommended for your vehicles, it is imperative that extra caution should be used during assembly of the tires and rims, which can affect your suspension, if not done correctly. This is why it is important to go for a road test after the assembly to make sure any parts of the tire is NOT touching the vehicle’s suspension.
