Tire problem on 1995 Dodge Ram Pickup R2500 that pulls when accelerating
Symptoms:
I have been driving my 1995 Dodge Ram Pickup R2500 for the last 3 years but
lately; this truck has a right pull when accelerating or cruising. When
you step on the brakes, it pulls to the left. A front-end alignment was
done and all the wheel alignment tolerances were good. Aside from this,
a brake inspection was also done and all tires were rotated which did
not remedy the situation. Finally, this problem is progressively getting
worse and I am afraid I might get into an accident, can you help?
Tire Problem Advisor:
Since most front-end inspections were done already, I would try these
if I were you:
Have you tried running a different set of tires from another 1995 Dodge truck which
is known not to have a pull? This will confirm if the problem is
tire related.
You can also try these:
Check and service your wheel bearings for any signs of wear and make sure
there are no loose parts in your front end like upper and lower ball joints,
stabilizer bar and link ends.
Monitor the brake temperatures of each brake rotors. One of the callipers
could be holding up and not releasing the rotor causing the pull. You can
also verify this by checking the color of the brake rotor. A bluish colored
rotor face means it is running hot.
When faced with difficult problems, try to get a second opinion by trying
another front alignment garage. If the second garage gives the same findings,
you might consider taking this 1995 Dodge truck for a “frame alignment” inspection.
Notes:
When in doubt, bring your vehicle to authorized Dodge dealer shop.
The above suspension is use for coil spring 2-wheel drive suspension system.
Above repair is only a recommendation and you do this at your own risk. Always
have your vehicle align after replacing the tires to prevent repetition
of the tire problem.
