Tire problem on 1996 Jeep Cherokee that pulls to the right
Symptoms:
Two weeks ago, my 1996 Jeep Cherokee started pulling to the right after
a hitting railroad track. Ever since, it started doing the right pull
whenever I drive in the highway or coming at stops. I had it checked for
a front-end alignment job but the mechanic reported all front-end component
part checks out OK. He also tried rotating the tires but to no avail. Would
you know if there is a common fix here?
Tire Problem Advisor:
Try getting a second opinion first to verify your first mechanics findings
and ask your second mechanic to check the tires for tread wear pattern
to determine if you have a front-end alignment parts failure. This can be
confirmed by a front-end alignment check thru an authorized Jeep service
shop. There is a common failure occurring on this type of Jeep, which is
caused by a defective tracking bar. Maybe suggest to them to pay a closer
attention to this part in case they are not aware of it.
Notes:
If you want to do this tracking bar repair yourself,
you can use this info below:
Raise front of vehicle and make sure it is safely supported. The tracking
bar can be removed by taking the cotter pin or hex nut out at the frame
rail bracket. You can then undo the track bar to housing fastening bolt,
then using a puller, the tracking bar can be dropped. To install, reverse
the procedure.
Above repair is only a recommendation and you do this at your own risk. Always
have your vehicle align after replacing the tires to prevent repetition
of the tire problem.
