Tire questions on 1999 Chrysler Concorde which has a tire noise
1999 Chrysler Concorde tire noise symptoms:
Every time I drive my 1999 Chrysler Concorde at 20-30 mph, you can
hear a tire noise at the front. Whenever you make a turn though, the
noise goes away. When a front-end alignment check was done, they
could not find anything wrong with the brake rotors and all the
front-end components. The tires were also rotated and see if the
noise would move but it stayed the same. Finally they replaced both
the CV joints and still the noise was there.
They are now thinking
that maybe the problem is the transaxle. Does it make any sense to you?
Tire Problem Advisor:
I would agree with this shop that the transaxle is a suspect if not for
one clue that you gave: every time you make a turn, the noise goes away.
For me this sounds like a front hub wheel bearing failure. All you do
is to remove the front CV joint assembly from the front tires so you can
access the “hub and bearing” assembly. When doing this, be careful of
the abs sensor wirings that are also located close to this. Regardless
whether the hub bearing looks good or not, just replaces it since the
symptom says it all.
Notes:
When in doubt, bring your vehicle to authorized Chrysler dealer shop.
Above repair is only a recommendation and you do this at your own risk. Always
have your vehicle align after replacing the tires to prevent repetition
of the tire problem.
