One of the shocking driving experience you
will have it to drive unsuspectingly through a snowy road and
you loose control because you don’t have winter
tires in your car. This is tragic because if you are
driving fast, you are headed into a serious accident!
Winter
tires are designed to handle situation like this. The tread
patterns are such that ice and snow are made to dissipate quickly
between the rubber and the road. Furthermore, the tire itself
is made to dig deeper to the ice to give you stability. This
is totally opposite your regular or high performance tires where
design is more rubber contact. On winter tires, more spaces
are put between the tire treads where the ice chunks can flow
quicker. This prevents the tire from slipping and this is the
big reason why it is far safer to use on icy roads.
When changing to winter tires, make sure all four tires are replaced. It does not matter whether it is four-wheel drive, front wheel drive or the regular rear wheel drive. You need to have them in all four wheels for the winter tires to work.
For your protection, you are still required to drive slow even your car has winter tires.
